Week of 22 August

August 22 Lake Stevens, WA

Loretta was in a lot of pain but did manage to sleep. She had to get up several times during night, which she was able to do with the help of the walker that the Andersons had loaned her. Didn’t do much today, as Loretta is trying to take it easy. But she did manage to do a few housework chores. I visited with Norm and did a small repair job for Loretta. We were invited to have dinner with the Andersons which was very delicious and included enjoyable visiting. Loretta’s leg started to bother, so she came home for medication and ice it then rest a while. Later we went in the house for Joker and visit till late evening.

I think Loretta put in a better night than before. She made breakfast here and did the dishes, and then I attempted to secure some mirrors that had loosened up. I visited with Norm some and assisted Loretta getting the brace back o her leg. In the afternoon, we went to Marysville where we stopped at Goodwill Industries and another benefit store searching for a walker for Loretta. None there, but was told that the Goodwill Store in Everett has some on Saturday. We stopped at Wal-Mart go get her prescription filled and shop some. They sell walkers (pricey) but were out of stock. So after getting lunch nearby, we returned home. Later Loretta walked some with just her cane and no brace on her leg. So perhaps she can travel without the walker, which would be more convenient anyway.

I left a bit after 0730 to go to Northwest Kenworth in Marysville and get the truck serviced. As I left the trailer, Norma told me that the well had gone dry - surprising with the amount of rain we had had. My appointment was at 0800, but I had quite a wait to get in and it was 1100 by the time they finished. I then returned to find that the well had not gone dry, but the end on our water hose had broken. The well driller is supposed to come today and get the new well in operation, so Norm disconnected the water lines and we don’t have water now. Loretta is in quite a bit of pain today; perhaps walking as she did yesterday without the brace was not a good idea. So I puttered around this afternoon while she rested. Later I visited with Norm, and examined our damaged stepladder which I decided wasn’t worth repairing. The well driller never came, so I assisted Norman a bit in getting the old pump connected up again. So at least we have water, but will have to be careful in usage. Earlier plans had been to go out for supper, but due to the way things worked out, Loretta made supper here. In the evening we went into the house for visit and while there, Marnie Opstad called to check on Loretta. Then we visited and played joker till about 2145. It has rained off and on all day and is quite hard now.

It rained all day, so didn’t do much. I did put some water in the tank and dumped the gray water tanks, as they were getting full. Did some planning on a route back to Tennessee as we plan on leaving tomorrow. Loretta is getting around with just her cane but still in a lot of pain. However she was able to do a load of laundry. In the evening our hosts drove us to Everett where we treated to supper. Then a ride around the area. It was raining (has been off and on all day), so visibility wasn’t very good. However, the tour, visit and Joker afterwards were all very enjoyable.
